About the Artist
Béatrice Eberhard
Béatrice Eberhard is a Swiss-born artist based in Canada. She began her formal training at the Schule für Gestaltung Zürich with a foundation year in art and design, followed by a four-year diploma in ceramics at the Schule für Gestaltung Bern. As a trained ceramist, she developed a strong sensitivity to form, structure, and surface—skills that continue to shape her approach to collage.
After completing her studies, she worked with several ceramic artists across Europe, gaining hands-on experience and insight into diverse artistic practices. After immigrating to Canada in 2000, her life unfolded through many roles—each one leaving its imprint on her creative path. Today, she creates textile and mixed-media collages that explore transformation through layering and pattern, both visually and emotionally.
Her current work combines acrylic paint, torn paper, photo fragments, thread, and typography to build richly textured surfaces. Through the process of layering, she reflects on memory, behavior, and the quiet potential for change. Her mixed-media collages evoke the feeling of being in a landscape, rather than depicting a specific place. Her textile pieces, constructed by quilting paper strips between layers of transparent fabric and batting, offer soft, abstract compositions that embody both fragility and strength.
During the pandemic, limited access to materials and working space led her to explore smaller, more intimate formats—transforming everyday materials like thread, paper, and printed text into delicate yet expressive compositions. Nature, where she feels most grounded and free, continues to be a steady source of inspiration.
Recent works turn inward, revisiting themes of childhood and the journey back to the self. Her art invites quiet reflection and encourages a gentle return to authenticity—a reconnection with the unguarded parts of ourselves that time and routine may have buried.
